Over the summer I decided to stop blogging for a while. I felt like I was going through the same cycle and was just stuck. I wasn’t giving myself the time I needed to figure out how I wanted to go forward and if I wanted to write anymore.
One of the books I read on my ‘random reading’ journey is Axiom’s End, a Sci-Fi first contact novel I’ve been anticipating for months. I’m ecstatic to say that I loved Axiom’s End and it was an odd combo of story elements that I didn’t know I needed together. I found myself craving more alien stories, particularly first contact that has a more intellectual bent. My mind keeps going back to the movie Arrival and how different it felt against the popular invasion movies of the ‘90s and early ‘00s.
For August this was my focu,s and upon wrapping up I realized, for the first time in a while, not only did I want to write, I felt like I actually had something to say. While I find reviews helpful, I am more interested in discussion, using reviews as a jumping off point. So for September, let’s talk about Aliens!
Along with Axiom’s End I read
The Three Body Problem – Liu Cixin
Children of Time – Adrian Tchaikovsky
Dawn – Octavia Butler
I’ll also be diving into movies past and present!
I’ll still be posting a Quick Lit and one Top Ten Tuesday but everything else will focus around First Contact. I’m so ready for September!
